INSTRUCTORSHIP IN ARABIC

Applications are invited for an Instructorship in Arabic, tenable from 1 October 2007 or as soon as possible thereafter. Applicants must have a native, or equivalent, command of Arabic and competence to teach a colloquial, preferably Syrian/Levantine or Egyptian; and some experience in teaching Arabic as a foreign language at university level. Applicants should hold, or expect to hold by the time of their appointment, a degree in Arabic language and/or literature. The Instructor will be required to cover tutorials in classical as well as Modern Standard texts at both the undergraduate and graduate levels; to develop teaching materials; and will be encouraged to participate in the further development of the profile of Arabic Studies in the University. The salary will be in the range of £23,002 to £27,465 a year.

INSTRUCTORSHIP IN SPANISH

The University proposes to appoint an Instructor in Spanish in the Faculty of Medieval and Modern Languages. The successful candidate will be required to give up to sixteen hours' language instruction in each of the ten weeks of the University's three terms each year. The successful candidate is expected to be a native speaker of English with excellent Spanish or a native speaker of Spanish with excellent English, and to have a first degree in a relevant subject (language, literature, or linguistics). Experience of teaching Spanish as a foreign language is required. A teaching qualification is desirable but not essential. Familiarity with and an interest in using technology (video, audio, IT) for language teaching is highly desirable. The post is available from 1 October 2007. The salary will be in the range of £23,002 to £30,013 a year.
