Vacancies in the University

University Lecturers

Appointments made at University Lecturer level will be for a probationary period of five years, with appointment to the retiring age thereafter. The pensionable scale of stipends for a University Lecturer is currently £32,795 to £41,544 a year and, from 1 August 2007, will be £33,779 to £42,791 a year. The pensionable scale of stipends for a University Senior Lecturer is currently £44,074 to £46,758 a year.

University Lectureships/Senior Lectureships in the Department of Geography

Applications are invited for two posts to be filled in the Department of Geography, from 1 October 2007 or earlier. One of these will be in the field of climate science and the other should have interests and expertise in the general field of environmental processes. Both should contribute to the further development of departmental strengths in one or more of: hydrology and fluvial processes, coastal processes and management, atmospheric processes and climate modelling, volcanic processes, landscape ecology, and environmental hazards. The post-holders will be expected to contribute to the Department's high level of research activity and to teach at undergraduate, Master's, and Ph.D. levels in Geography and Natural Science. According to experience, the appointments will be made at University Lecturer or University Senior Lecturer level. There is also an opportunity for one of the appointments to be made initially as an RCUK Academic Fellowship.

University Lectureship in Sedimentology and Tectonic Geology in the Department of Earth Sciences

The Department of Earth Sciences invites applications for a University Lectureship in Sedimentology and Tectonic Geology. The Department has a strong tradition of fieldwork teaching, in which the post-holder will be expected to take part.

University Lectureship in the Faculty of Economics

Applications are invited for a Lectureship in the Faculty of Economics, which is available from 1 October 2007. The Faculty is seeking an applied economist specializing in the economics of household finances, including consumption, savings, portfolio choice, and housing. The successful applicant will be expected to teach financial economics, computational economics, and applied micoeconometrics. Candidates with proven experience of applying structural macroeconomic models, including consumption, saving, and asset pricing, to microdata are particularly encouraged.

University Lectureship in the Faculty of Philosophy

The Faculty of Philosophy is seeking to appoint a University Lecturer in Philosophy. The successful candidate will have a proven record of excellence in teaching and research and must be able to take up the appointment on 1 October 2007. There are no restrictions as to area of expertise required, but ability and willingness to contribute to the Faculty's teaching, at both graduate and undergraduate level, are essential.

Administrative Officer in the Academic Division of the University Offices (Department of Biological Anthropology)

Applications are invited for the post of Administrative Officer in the Academic Division of the University Offices. The post-holder will serve as administrator of the Department of Biological Anthropology, where, as part of the management team, he/she will oversee the administrative support of the Department and help implement policies to manage effectively its resources for research and teaching.

The successful candidate will be educated to degree level and will have relevant administrative experience, including proven ability in managing resources and staff, preferably gained in a higher education establishment. Appointment will be to the retiring age subject to the satisfactory completion of a probationary period. The salary will be in the range of £24,402 to £31,840 a year.

Human Resources Administrator in the University Centre

Applications are invited for the post of Human Resources Administrator in the University Centre. The University Centre employs over 130 people who work together to provide a comprehensive hospitality service to members of the University at a number of locations across Cambridge. The post-holder will have responsibility for day to day HR administrative operations, including payroll activities, supervising the work of the Personnel and Payroll Assistant, as well as providing advice to staff on personnel matters/procedures, employee development, and employee relations in a busy and constantly changing environment. The salary will be in the range of £23,002 to £26,666 a year.

The successful candidate will have an eye for detail and will be able to demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills coupled with a good working knowledge of Microsoft Office. The post-holder will also need to use his/her initiative in prioritizing his/her own work to meet tight deadlines.

This is a demanding post for which the post-holder will need to be adaptable to work both unsupervised and co-operatively with colleagues, often under pressure. A commitment to and experience of providing a high standard of customer service whilst maintaining confidentiality is essential.
