Antiquarian Society

The next meeting will be held at 5.45 p.m. on 5 March in the Faculty of Law Building, West Road. At 6 p.m., after the Annual General Meeting of the Society, Carenza Lewis will speak on Micro-digs, macro-impact - outreach and village test-pit investigations in Cambridgeshire and beyond. Members of the Society may bring guests, and students are warmly invited to attend.

The Annual Spring Conference on the theme New insights into Prehistoric and Roman East Anglia will be held on 10 March between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. in Room LG19 of the Law Faculty Building, West Road. The programme will be as follows:

Introduction by J. Heathcote, of English Heritage.

Prehistoric and Roman landscapes in Cambridgeshire, by S. Poppy, of Cambridgeshire Archaeology.

Modelling the landscape, by C. Begg, of Cam ARC.

Grimes Graves in 3D, by P. Topping, of English Heritage.

Visualizing the submerged, by S. Fitch, of the University of Birmingham.

Lunch, 12.45 p.m. to 2.15 p.m.

The Suffolk rivers project and the waterlogged site at Beccles, by A. Howard, of the University of Birmingham.

The first English crannog? Excavations at Must Farm, by M. Knight, of the Cambridge Archaeological Unit.

Places for non-members are £10 and for members of CAS, English Heritage, and Cambridgeshire Association of Local History, £8.50. Morning coffee and afternoon tea are included.
