Oxford Centre for Hebrew and Jewish Studies

PRESIDENT

The Governors of the Oxford Centre for Hebrew and Jewish Studies invite applications for the post of President in succession to Peter Oppenheimer, who retires in 2008. Founded in 1972, the Centre is a Recognized Independent Centre of the University of Oxford, engaging mainly in research and graduate teaching. Candidates for the Presidency must possess the vision and ability to encourage the Centre's continued growth and development. The post-holder will have overall responsibility for its fund-raising, administration, and public relations. Leadership and management skills and the ability to communicate at all levels are essential. Experience in the field of Hebrew and Jewish Studies is desirable, although scholars from other disciplines and distinguished persons of wider experience will also be considered. The salary is negotiable within the range for an Oxford University professor. The successful candidate will be expected to take office no later than 1 October 2008. Rent-free accommodation is available in the President's Lodgings on the Yarnton Manor estate.

Further particulars are available upon request from Professor Hugh Williamson, Chairman of the Search Committee, Oxford Centre for Hebrew and Jewish Studies, Yarnton Manor, Yarnton, Oxford, OX5 1PY, to whom all applications, including a curriculum vitae, should be sent by 9 March 2007. Candidates should arrange for three referees to write directly to Professor Williamson by the same date; he would also be pleased to hear in confidence from individuals who might like to suggest names of appropriate persons for this post. The Governors' choice will not necessarily be limited to those whose names come forward in this way. The Centre's website may be visited at http://www.ochjs.ac.uk/.
