Announcement of lectures, seminars, etc.

The following lectures, seminars, etc. will be open to members of the University and others who are interested:

Anglo-Saxon, Norse, and Celtic. Professor Erich Poppe, of the University of Marburg, Germany, will give the Eleventh Annual E. C. Quiggin Memorial Lecture, entitled Of cycles and other critical matters in Medieval Irish and other insular literatures, at 5 p.m. on 30 November, in room G-R06-7 of the English Faculty Building, 9 West Road.

Biotechnology. Professor Paul Harrison, of the University of Oxford, will give a seminar entitled The neurobiology of schizophrenia susceptibility, on 30 November, from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m., in the Biochemistry Lecture Theatre (Sanger Building), Tennis Court Road.

Cambridge Assessment. Professor James Flynn will give a seminar on the subject Is intelligence (or something else important) rising?, on 15 December, in the Winstanley Lecture Theatre, Trinity College. Tea and coffee will be available from 2 p.m., and the seminar will take place from 2.30 p.m. to 4.30 p.m. The seminar will be followed by a reception. Admission is free, but reservation is required. East Asia Institute. Professor James Bartholomew, of the Ohio State University, will give a seminar entitled Japan and the politics of the Nobel Prize, at 5 p.m. on 29 November, in Room 13, Faculty of Oriental Studies, Sidgwick Avenue. Isaac Newton Institute. The XXVII R. A. Fisher Memorial Lecture. The Rothschild Visiting Professor, Elizabeth Thompson, of the University of Washington, will give a seminar entitled 1953: an unrecognized summit in human genetic linkage analysis, at 5 p.m. on 4 December, followed by an informal reception at 6 p.m.

Modern and Medieval Languages. The annual Norman MacColl Symposium will take place on 1 December, at CRASSH, 17 Mill Lane. The topic of this year's symposium is Spanish screen media: cinema, television, internet. The Norman MacColl Lecture, to be given by Professor Manuel Palacio of the Carlos III University, Madrid, will be entitled Notas sobre el canon cinematográfico y televisivo en España, and is scheduled for 12 noon.
