UNIVERSITY LECTURESHIP IN RUSSIAN

The University, in association with Wadham College and Worcester College, proposes to appoint a University Lecturer in Russian in the Faculty of Medieval and Modern Languages from 1 September 2007. The post is associated with a Tutorial Fellowship at Wadham College and a Lectureship at Worcester College.

The successful candidate should have a research record of international standing appropriate to the stage of the candidate's career with evidence of, or, exceptionally, evidence of potential for producing, distinguished research in the field of Russian literature of the late Imperial era (1840-1917). Early career applicants should show outstanding research potential. Candidates should be able to contribute to literature teaching at all levels of the undergraduate degree, and to participate in graduate courses and supervision. A research interest in other fields, such as cultural history, literary history, and cinema might be an advantage, as might ability to research and teach in a second Slavonic language. Candidates should have an excellent knowledge of Russian, established skills in language teaching, and must be sufficiently proficient in English to carry out teaching, writing, and administration in that language. The salary will be in the range of £37,642 to £50,589 a year (grade 10a).

UNIVERSITY LECTURESHIP IN SOCIAL HISTORY

The University proposes to appoint a (tenurable) University Lecturer in Social History, to take up post from 1 October 2007. Applicants should have a research specialism in the application of modern social science theory to the history of any medieval or modern period and any geographical area. The post represents an outstanding opportunity to participate in the development of economic and social history in the University. The post-holder will contribute to both undergraduate and graduate teaching and supervision in social history, and will be expected to teach quantitative methods to historians.

The University Lecturer will be a member of the History Faculty and a Fellow of All Souls College. The post will attract a combined stipend in the range of £37,642 to £50,589 a year.

INSTRUCTORSHIP IN CHINESE

Applications are invited for a fixed-term Instructorship in Chinese, tenable from 1 March 2007 or as soon as possible thereafter, for a period of four years and seven months. Applicants must have a native, or equivalent, command of Mandarin Chinese, and some experience in teaching Chinese as a foreign language at university level. Applicants should hold, or expect to hold by the time of their appointment, a degree or equivalent qualification. The Instructor will be required to give instruction in Mandarin Chinese at all levels, including a small amount of teaching outside term, and to participate in the further development of the profile of Chinese Studies in the University. The salary will be in the range of £22,774 to £27,193 (grade 6).
