University Lecturers

Appointments made at University Lecturer level will be for a probationary period of five years, with appointment to the retiring age thereafter. The pensionable scale of stipends for a University Lecturer is currently £32,471 to £41,133 a year.

University Lectureship in the Department of Experimental Psychology

Applications are invited for a University Lectureship in the Department of Experimental Psychology, to take up appointment as soon as possible after May 2007. The appointment will be made in the areas of Cognitive Neuropsychology or Cognitive Neuroscience, and the Department would welcome applications from candidates within these areas who also have some experience in Clinical Cognitive Neuropsychology.

The person appointed would be expected to contribute to the undergraduate teaching programme and to participate in the teaching and supervision of graduate students.

Clinical Lecturer/Specialist Registrar in Clinical Genetics in the School of Clinical Medicine

Applications are invited for the post of Clinical Lecturer/Specialist Registrar in Clinical Genetics in the Department of Medical Genetics, to take up appointment as soon as possible, and by 31 March 2007 at the latest. The post is part of the new UKCRC/MMC Integrated Academic Training initiative and offers trainees of outstanding academic potential an excellent research and clinical environment to advance their academic career. Applicants should have MRCP (UK) or equivalent, a Ph.D. or M.D. Degree, suitable clinical experience to be eligible for an honorary NHS contract as a Specialist Registrar in Clinical Genetics (NTNA), and at least one year of clinical genetics experience to count towards specialist training. The successful candidate will be required to undertake research, clinical duties, and some teaching. The appointment will be for four years with the possibility of reappointment for a further two years. The salary will be in the range of £28,930 to £50,219 a year.

Departmental Secretary in the Department of Experimental Psychology

The Department of Experimental Psychology seeks an enthusiastic and highly motivated person with strong organizational skills to take up the position of Departmental Secretary/Administrator in this successful (RAE 6* and 24 TQA) Department. The successful applicant will be responsible to the Head of Department for all non-academic functions of the Department and the line management of all permanent non-academic staff. The successful applicant will ideally have recent experience of university administration at a senior level, and will be expected to support an academic department with a large student cohort and an extensive research and teaching portfolio.

The role also requires the supervision of the administration of research grants and departmental accounts, and an active role in financial strategy. The ideal applicant will possess excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills, along with a proven track record of staff management and supervision. He/she should be proactive and flexible, and able to work under pressure and to meet deadlines. He/she will work closely with the Head of Department and other senior staff to develop and implement strategies that sustain and enhance the Department's high academic profile, including the provision of a local personnel service, building schemes, and the organization of teaching. The successful applicant will inform, facilitate, and manage to completion the Department's response to initiatives that arise within the University of Cambridge, or from the Research Councils, major Charities, or various Government Institutions. The post-holder will therefore play a pivotal role, relating to senior academic staff, senior University administrators, and the administrative staff of grant-giving bodies, and also to the Department's teaching officers, contract research staff, assistant staff, and graduate students. It is anticipated that the successful candidate will have a suitable scientific background to graduate or post-doctoral level. The salary will be in the range of £28,849 to £38,772 a year (grade 8), according to experience, with the possibility of progression on contribution once in post to £42,367.
