University Lecturers

Appointments made at University Lecturer level will be for a probationary period of five years, with appointment to the retiring age thereafter. The pensionable scale of stipends for a University Lecturer is currently £32,471 to £41,133 a year and for a University Senior Lecturer is currently £43,638 to £46,295 a year.

University Lectureships/Senior Lectureship in the Faculty of Economics

Applications are invited for up to two Lectureships, one of which could be at Senior Lectureship level, which are available from 1 September 2007. The Faculty is seeking applicants in any area of Macroeconomics, with possible specialization in Finance for one of the posts.

Candidates for the Senior Lectureship should show evidence of sustained excellence in teaching and of scholarship in research with several papers published, or accepted for publication, in good journals.

Candidates for the Lectureship should have a Ph.D. Degree, or be firmly expected to have a Ph.D. by September 2007, and should show evidence of significant scholarship.

University Lectureship in the Department of Pharmacology

Applications are invited for a University Lectureship in the Department of Pharmacology, with effect from 1 July 2007, or as soon as possible thereafter. The Department offers excellent facilities for teaching and research, and has particular interests in cell signalling, cancer biology, neurobiology, and structural biology. Applications from candidates with research interests in any relevant area of biological science would be welcome.

Three University Lectureships in the Department of Politics

Applications are invited for three University Lectureships in Politics from 1 September 2007 or as soon as possible thereafter. Applicants should have research ability of a high standard in comparative or international politics, political economy, or modern political theory, and will be expected to contribute to teaching for the B.A. and M.Phil. Clinical Lecturer in General Practice in the School of Clinical Medicine

The Department of Public Health and Primary Care in the School of Clinical Medicine seeks a Clinical Lecturer in General Practice, to take up appointment as soon as possible. The post is placed in the General Practice and Primary Care Research Unit, which is an NHS R&D Academic Unit, and part of the National School for Primary Care Research, and associated with the Eastern Deanery.

The Unit is part of the prestigious UKCRC/MMC (Walport) Clinical Lectureship programme in General Practice. It offers fully qualified GPs with a Ph.D. or M.D. Degree an opportunity to carry out postdoctoral research half-time, and to apply for further Fellowship funding. The post-holder will continue to practise as a GP half-time and will hold an Honorary contract with the NHS Executive Eastern Region.

The post is available for up to four years, depending on career trajectory, at the appropriate point on the new consultants' salary scale of £69,991 to £94,706.

Administrative Officer, Grade II (Communications Officer), in the Office of Communications

The Office of Communications seeks an ambitious communications professional to help the busy team promote the University around the globe.

The post-holder will be responsible for media relations, working closely with academics and staff at key University institutions, including museums, libraries, and other institutions such as the ADC Theatre. Other areas of responsibility include community outreach, international relationships, equality, and diversity.

The successful candidate will have relevant media relations experience and will be able to demonstrate excellent writing and communication skills, as well as the ability to work under pressure. A strong team player, he/she will also have good interpersonal and relationship building skills and high professional standards. The salary will be in the range of £22,774 to £26,402 (grade 6), with the possibility of progression to £31,525 once in post. The exact starting salary will be negotiable.

Computer Officer in the Wellcome Trust Centre for Stem Cell Research

The Wellcome Trust Centre for Stem Cell Research (CSCR) has been established by the University of Cambridge with core funding from the Wellcome Trust and the Medical Research Council. The Centre offers a world-class research environment focused on exploring the basic properties of stem cells as well as their potential in biomedical applications.

An experienced person with a wide range of information technology knowledge is required to develop IT policies and strategies for the CSCR and Cambridge Systems Biology Centre (CSBC). The main duties will include: developing and maintaining the IT systems within the Centres (CSCR and CSBC); planning and managing the Centre's IT infrastructure and solving problems with network performance; maintaining network security and advising on updating the network with ongoing and emerging technology; and maintaining the Centre's website. The Computer Officer will be expected to liaise with the Computer Officers in the CSBC and the Institute of Biotechnology.

Applicants should hold a degree, have experience in biological/life sciences, and in networking and systems management, and have an established record of Mac OS, Windows, Unix, and Linux. Excellent interpersonal and communications skills are essential.

The appointment will be for three years in the first instance, subject to a satisfactory probation period, with the possibility of renewal for a further two years. The salary will be in the range of £28,849 to £38,772 (grade 8).
