PROFESSORSHIP OF LINGUISTICS

Applications are invited for the above post, tenable from 1 October 2007 or such earlier date as may be arranged. The successful candidate will have an outstanding record in research and publication in his or her particular field and will be expected to play a major part in sustaining and promoting research and teaching in linguistics at Oxford. The Professor will offer intellectual leadership in linguistics and make his or her expertise available to colleagues and students with a wide range of interests, from cognitive science to comparative philology. A non-stipendiary Professorial Fellowship at Somerville College is attached to the Professorship.

UNIVERSITY LECTURESHIP IN NEW TESTAMENT STUDIES IN THE FACULTY OF THEOLOGY

Applications are invited for the above post, tenable from 1 October 2007. The successful candidate will be an established scholar with a good research profile who is able to contribute to various aspects of the work of the Faculty. An ability to show expertise in one of the following areas will be an advantage: Second Temple Judaism; the Greco-Roman background to the New Testament; or the application of the social sciences to biblical studies. A tutorial Fellowship at Keble College is attached to the Lectureship. The salary will be up to £50,589 a year.

HUMANITIES RAE OFFICER IN THE HUMANITIES DIVISIONAL OFFICES

Applications are invited for the post of Humanities RAE Officer in the Humanities Divisional Offices, for a fixed term (to 31 December 2008). This varied post offers an excellent opportunity to contribute to strategic decision making and planning activities in one of the world's leading universities. The post-holder will be required to become an authoritative source of information on national policy and practice in respect of the Research Assessment Exercise (RAE). This will involve a high level of understanding of the relevant Higher Education and Funding Council for English (HEFCE) circulars on the subject and the ability to provide briefings on the possible financial implications of RAE outcomes. The post-holder must be able to write papers on policy issues to be addressed and be confident in providing oral guidance in meetings of academics or administrators. In addition, the post-holder will be responsible for overseeing the actual submission of data and for the management of clerical staff supporting the data preparation. He or she will work closely with staff in the Humanities and also with counterparts in the other academic divisions and with the central team co-ordinating the University's submission to the RAE. The Division is looking for someone with high intellectual ability, with experience of handling large amounts of information and with using spreadsheets and databases, and showing a high standard of both written and oral communication. The salary will be in the range of £25,633 to £31,525 a year (grade 7).
