Notice of benefactions

31 July 2006

The Vice-Chancellor gives notice that she has received with gratitude the following benefactions:

(a) a benefaction of £1m from the Board of Cambridge in America to support doctoral research students in the Computer Laboratory in the University of Cambridge. The benefaction has been made possible following a major anonymous donation to Cambridge in America and will be used to establish a fund to be called the 2009 Computer Laboratory Research Students Fund;
(b) two benefactions to establish a fund to support chemists at the start of their academic careers to be called the Chemistry Next Generation Fund. One is from Dr P. J. Brown and is for £250,000 to be donated to the University over five years under Gift Aid arrangements. The second is from the Walters Kundert Charitable Trust also for £250,000, to be donated to the University over five years starting in 2007.

The benefaction from the Walters Kundert Charitable Trust is in addition to the benefaction received to support research in Chemical Biology (see Reporter, 2004-05, p. 890 and 2005-06, p. 526).

The Council are submitting Graces to the Regent House (Graces 6 and 7, p. 972) for the approval of regulations to govern the proposed Funds.
