FIXED-TERM, PART-TIME (0.5) LECTORSHIP IN SPANISH

Applications are invited for a fixed-term, part-time Lectorship in Spanish. The post is available from 1 October 2006, or as soon as possible thereafter. The appointee will be required to give classes in essay-writing, in translation from English into Spanish, in the oral use of Spanish, and in the development of Spanish language skills; to take part as an additional examiner in oral examinations (for which additional payment will be made); to participate in a two-day intensive course once a year at the beginning or end of a vacation (for which additional payment will be made); and to provide reports for tutors. Applicants should be fluent in Spanish to native-speaker level, and should have been recently resident in a country where Spanish is an official national language. They should have a good command of English, and experience of teaching Spanish at an appropriate level, together with an interest in working with a range of modern techniques of language teaching. Applicants must be graduates of a university in a country where Spanish is an official national language; a university qualification in languages or language teaching would be an advantage.

This is a fixed-term post in order to ensure that undergraduate students have contact with an individual who is able to demonstrate recent immersion in the Spanish language and in Hispanic culture. In view of this, the post is not normally tenable for a period of more than 45 months. The salary will be up to £17,436 a year, pro rata (under review).

The closing date for applications is noon on 14 July 2006. Further particulars can be downloaded from http://www.mod-langs.ox.ac.uk/, or are available on request from Ms Margaret Pinsent, Faculty of Medieval and Modern Languages, 41 Wellington Square, Oxford, OX1 2JF (tel. 01865 270755, e-mail recruitment@mod-langs.ox.ac.uk).
