Graces submitted to the Regent House on 21 June 2006

The Council submit the following Graces to the Regent House. These Graces, other than any which is withdrawn or for which a ballot is requested in accordance with the regulations for Graces of the Regent House (Statutes and Ordinances, p. 109), will be deemed to have been approved at 4 p.m. on Friday, 30 June 2006.

1. That the recommendations in paragraph 4 of the Report of the General Board, dated 10 May 2006, on the establishment of a Professorship of Historical Anthropology (Reporter, 2005-06, p. 652) be approved.

2. That on the recommendation of the Faculty Board of Economics and the General Board, the regulations for Affiliated Students be amended as follows:1

Regulation 6.

Economics

If the Faculty Board of Economics allows it in a particular case, leave to take Part IIA of the Economics Tripos not earlier than the second term after the student's first term of actual residence under the same conditions as if he or she had previously obtained honours in Part I of the Tripos.

3. That Regulation 3 of the regulations for the Suzy Paine Fund be amended so as to read:2

The Managers may make grants from the income of the Fund to members of the University in statu pupillari who are or intend to be candidates for the Economics Tripos and to Graduate Students undertaking advanced study or research in the field of Political Economy in the University, to assist them in meeting the cost of travel to and in Asia in connection with their studies or in meeting other costs incurred in the course of research related to Asia.

1 Statutes and Ordinances, p. 172. The amendment provides for the Faculty Board to have involvement in the standing of Affiliated Students admitted to the Tripos, analogous to that of a number of other Faculty Boards.

2 Statutes and Ordinances, p. 817. The Managers of the Fund have proposed that they should be able to award grants for research related to Asia as well as travel. The donor has been consulted and has agreed to the proposed amendment.
