Careers Adviser

The Graduate School of Biological, Medical, and Veterinary Sciences is looking for someone with a strong interest in people and their futures to work as a Careers Adviser, supporting their Life Science contract research staff with career management, development, and training. The successful candidate will be based in the University Careers Service, working mainly in and through Life Science Departments.

Applicants should be graduates, preferably with a Life Science background. Postgraduate experience and qualifications to doctoral level would be useful. Essential personal qualities include enthusiasm, curiosity, objectivity, stamina, and the ability to switch tasks frequently. Above all, the post-holder will need to be outgoing, to like people, and to be able to work under pressure, both independently and in a group. Professional training courses are available. Appointment will be for a fixed term of two years from 1 September 2006, or as soon as possible thereafter, and will be subject to the satisfactory completion of a nine-month probationary period. Salary will be on a scale up to £39,452, depending on experience.
