Readerships in the School of the Humanities and Social Sciences: Notice

The School of the Humanities and Social Sciences is an umbrella organization serving nineteen pre-eminent teaching and research institutions in the humanities and social sciences. The School now seeks to appoint four Readers. The pensionable stipend at Readership level is £47,685.

Readership in Sociology

Applications are invited from candidates with expertise in the fields of economic and/or political sociology. The Department of Sociology is seeking to appoint an established scholar of international standing who has a strong publication record and an active programme of research in either or both of these fields. It is hoped that the successful candidate will be able to take up the post on 1 October 2006 or as soon as possible thereafter.

Readerships in Curriculum Policy and Teacher Education

The Faculty of Education is committed to the highest standards of research and teaching and is a significant contributor to the improvement of educational policy and practice in partnership with schools and other educational agencies both in the UK and internationally. The creation of these new Readerships offers an outstanding opportunity for two innovative educators to play key roles in helping the Faculty achieve its aspiration to become a leading national and international centre for educational research and for the study of education.

Applications are invited from those able to provide leadership in one of two cross-cutting themes - Curriculum Policy and Teacher Education - intended to capitalize on the professional expertise of Faculty staff across several academic groups. It is expected that the successful candidates will have outstanding research records and international reputations in their fields. The posts are available from 1 October 2006.

The Department of Social Anthropology welcomes applications from those interested in any field of social anthropology, though preference may be given to specialists in one or more of the following: East Asia; family and kinship; law; visual and information technologies; economic and political development.
