Librarian in the Department of Geography

Applications are invited for the position of Librarian in the Department of Geography. This is a key post in a leading teaching and research Department, and the post-holder will be responsible for running the Department library. Applicants must be familiar with a range of computer applications, including information retrieval via the web and databases, and database management. Experience in web authoring would be an advantage. An ability to organize and present information effectively in printed and electronic formats is essential. Library experience (preferably in an academic or 'special' library) is required, including collection management, budget management, assisting with reader enquiries, and cataloguing principles and practice. A helpful attitude and good interpersonal skills are essential, as is the ability to work alone whilst remaining part of a close-knit team. According to experience, the appointment will be on the University Librarian Grade C scale, which currently ranges from £20,044 to £24,352.

Temporary Lectureship in the Faculty of Oriental Studies

Applications are invited for a temporary Lectureship in Taiwanese Studies, with effect from 1 October 2006. This is a fixed-term unestablished appointment for three years in the first instance, with the possibility of reappointment for a further two years. The post will be open to any scholar with a proven record of teaching and research excellence in Taiwanese Studies. The Lecturer would be expected to teach and examine using English, to publish research in his/her field of Taiwanese studies, and to promote that field by organizing lectures and seminars. The post-holder would also be expected to supervise graduate research and to help with administration. The pensionable scale of stipends for a Lecturer is currently £31,525 to £39,935 a year.

Mellon Research Fellowship in American History

Applications are invited for a Mellon Research Fellowship in American History, tenable for one year from 1 October 2006. It is expected that candidates will have either completed a Ph.D. dissertation or be able to submit substantial written work. Appointment will be made on the Research Assistant (currently £20,044 to £22,289 a year) or Research Associate (currently £20,044 to £30,002 a year) scales.

Further particulars may be obtained from the Secretary of the Mellon Fellowship Fund, Faculty of History, West Road, Cambridge, CB3 9EF, to whom applications (six copies) should be sent to arrive by 1 July 2006. Applications should include a statement of proposed research, a curriculum vitae, and a sample of written work (a chapter of a Ph.D. or its equivalent), together with the names of three referees who have knowledge of the candidate's work.
