Somerville College

OFFICIAL FELLOWSHIP AND UNIVERSITY LECTURESHIP (CUF) IN EARLY MODERN HISTORY

Somerville College proposes to appoint a Fellow and Tutor in Early Modern History with effect from 1 October 2006 or as soon as possible thereafter. The Fellowship will be held in conjunction with a University Lectureship (CUF) in the Faculty of History. The person appointed will teach European and British History c.1500-1700, and should have active research interests in either the Continental Reformation and/or Counter Reformation, or the history of Spain, Portugal, and their empires.

The post represents an opportunity for a young or an established scholar to join the largest group of research-active historians in the country, with a seminar culture attracting scholars nationally and internationally, and outstanding graduate students.

The Fellow will be required to undertake eight hours of teaching a week for the College, averaged over the three eight-week terms, in relevant courses in History and its Joint Schools, and to give lectures and undertake graduate teaching and supervision for the Faculty. The current combined College and University salary is on an age-related scale, subject to annual review (up to £47,078 with effect from 1 August 2005), plus allowances. A new non-age-related grading structure with a shorter pay spine is being introduced with effect from August 2006.

Further particulars covering both the College and the University posts, and the application and selection procedures, which all potential candidates should consult before applying, are available on the Somerville College website at http://www.some.ox.ac.uk/, or may be obtained from the Tutorial Administrator, Somerville College, Oxford, OX2 6HD (tel. 01865 270631, e-mail sophie.stevens@some.ox.ac.uk). The closing date for receipt of applications is 2 June 2006.

Somerville College and the University of Oxford are equal opportunities employers.
