Keble College

STIPENDIARY LECTURESHIP IN NEW TESTAMENT STUDIES

Keble College, in association with the Theology Faculty, invites applications for a Stipendiary Lectureship in New Testament Studies for one year in the first instance, starting from 1 October 2006. The successful candidate will be expected to provide six hours of tutorial teaching for undergraduates a week, averaged over the academical year, and to provide sixteen hours of lecturing for the Theology Faculty a year.

Candidates should have teaching experience in New Testament Studies, and must be able to teach the first year paper, The Gospel of Mark, and the two Final Honours School papers, The Gospels and Jesus, and Pauline Literature. An ability to contribute to optional New Testament papers including Luke-Acts, Hebrews to Revelation, Varieties of Judaism from 100BC to AD100, and the New Testament in Greek would be welcome, but is not required. As Director of Studies in Theology, the Lecturer will be responsible for the routine administration of undergraduates reading Theology. The post-holder will also be required to participate in undergraduate admissions, and to assist colleagues with the pastoral care of undergraduates reading Theology.

Candidates are likely to have a doctorate, or equivalent qualification, or be on course to obtaining one in the near future. The salary is on an annual scale of £11,040-£13,002, depending on experience. The post-holder will receive an additional stipend of £5,000 from the Theology Faculty, for lecturing duties. The Lecturer will be entitled to six free meals a week, the use of a computer, and a teaching room. In addition, the post-holder will receive an academic allowance of £212 and a student entertainment allowance of £398 for the purpose of entertaining undergraduates.

RESEARCH FELLOW AND TUTOR IN ENGINEERING SCIENCE

The College proposes to elect a Research Fellow and Tutor in Engineering Science for a period of three years (fixed term, non-renewable) from 1 October 2006. The person elected will have research interests in any area of engineering and will be required to teach Engineering Science at undergraduate level. The teaching stint will be three hours a week, averaged over the academical year. The Fellow will be asked to help in a limited way with the academic and pastoral organization of the subject. The Fellow will not be a member of the Governing Body, but will be a full member of the Senior Common Room, and will be entitled to lunch and dinner at the Common Table as well as to an academic allowance of £424 a year (adjustable annually). A shared teaching room will be available. The stipend for up to three hours of teaching a week, averaged over the year, will be £2,892.24 a year (adjustable annually). In addition, a Fellow not in receipt of other financial support will receive a housing allowance of £3,641 a year (adjustable annually). The Fellow will be eligible to join USS. Selection will be made on the basis of research potential and teaching ability.
