ROBERT OWEN BISHOP RESEARCH SCHOLARSHIP IN HISTORY

Christ's College is offering a one-year Research Scholarship in History, for the academical year 2006-07, designed to support scholars at an early stage of their research career. The Scholarship may be used to support a year of pre-Ph.D. independent study, either before or after an M.Phil. Degree in History. Previous Scholars have used the Scholarship for learning a language or mastering an adjacent scholarly field, and the Fund Managers will give priority to candidates of this character. However, the Scholarship is also available to provide partial support to candidates for M.Phil. Degrees in the Faculty of History at Cambridge.

The Scholarship is open to graduates of any university. Applicants must have received their first degree by August 2006 and not have graduated earlier than June 2005. Holders of the Scholarship must become members of Christ's College. The Scholarship is worth £7,500. It also pays up to £1,500 as a supplementary allowance towards the cost of maintenance, research, or fees.

Application forms and further details may be obtained from the Fellows' Secretary, Christ's College, Cambridge, CB2 3BU. Completed application forms should be returned to the same address by 1 July 2006.

SIR JOHN PLUMB GRADUATE STUDENTSHIP IN HISTORY

Applications are invited from candidates with an outstanding undergraduate record and who are intending to research in History for a Cambridge Ph.D. Degree for a Sir John Plumb Graduate Studentship award tenable at Christ's College from October 2006. This award is offered by Christ's College in association with the Glenfield Trust. The total annual value of the Studentship could be up to £15,000 plus £1,000 research expenses for up to three years. It is expected that the successful candidate would normally hold an AHRC or other award as a home student, or at least a fee award as an EU or overseas student, and in that case the Studentship would be a top-up award.

The Studentship is open to graduates of any university. Applicants would be expected to have been awarded First Class Honours or equivalent and to have received their first degree not earlier than 2005. Application forms may be obtained from the Fellows' Secretary, Christ's College, Cambridge, CB2 3BU. Completed applications must be returned in time to be received no later than 1 July 2006.
