Hertford College

STIPENDIARY LECTURESHIP IN ECONOMICS

Hertford College invites applications from graduates for a fixed-term Stipendiary Lectureship in Economics tenable for five years from 1 October 2006, subject to confirmation by the Governing Body at the end of the first year. The Lecturer will be required to teach an average of up to twelve hours a week each term, principally for the College but possibly also for other Colleges under an exchange arrangement.

Economics is part of a number of joint Honour Schools, e.g. Philosophy, Politics, and Economics (PPE), Economics and Management, and Modern History and Economics, and the Lecturer will be expected to provide core teaching in Microeconomics and Macroeconomics for first and second year undergraduates. In addition, the ability to teach at least one of the other economics papers in which the applicant has a particular interest is highly desirable. He or she will be expected to share in the general organization of teaching in Economics and the pastoral supervision of undergraduates studying Economics, and to assist with the admissions process in Michaelmas Term.

The basic stipend will be on a scale from £18,925 a year (under review), and the Lecturer will be entitled to some meals without charge and to a shared teaching room in College. Where appropriate, the Lecturer will be entitled to join USS. Further particulars can be obtained from the website at http://www.hertford.ox.ac.uk/ (under 'advertised posts'), or from the Academic Administrator, Hertford College, Oxford, OX1 3BW (tel. 01865 279423, fax 01865 279466). Completed applications should be submitted to the Academic Administrator by the closing date of 22 May 2006. Candidates should ask two referees to send confidential references directly to the Academic Administrator to arrive no later than the closing date. It is intended to interview short-listed candidates in mid-June.
