University Lecturers

Appointments made at University Lecturer level will be for a probationary period of five years, with appointment to the retiring age thereafter. The pensionable scale of stipends for a University Lecturer is currently £25,565 to £39,452 a year and for a University Senior Lecturer is currently £41,747 to £43,850 a year.

University Lectureship in Developmental or Social Psychology

Applications are invited for a University Lectureship in the Department of Social and Developmental Psychology from 1 September 2006, or as soon as possible thereafter. The Department wishes to appoint a developmental or social psychologist able to establish a strong research programme in any area of developmental or social psychology, and to contribute to its teaching programme in central areas of developmental and social psychology as well as research methods/data analysis. In addition to the permanent Lectureship, the Department hopes to appoint a Temporary Lecturer for a fixed term of two years (see below). University Lectureship in English (Early Modern Literature)

The Faculty of English is seeking to appoint a University Lecturer, with effect from 1 October 2006 or as soon as possible thereafter. The post is open to applicants with a primary research interest in early modern literature. University Lectureship in Human Evolutionary Genetics

The Leverhulme Centre for Human Evolutionary Studies wishes to appoint a University Lecturer in Human Evolutionary Genetics, to take up appointment on 1 October 2006. The prime criteria for appointment will be excellence in research and teaching in this area. It is expected that the successful candidate will strengthen and develop the Centre's research programme in human evolutionary genetics and will actively contribute to the Centre's aims of fostering multi-disciplinary research in human evolution.

University Lectureship in Marketing

Judge Business School is looking to recruit an exceptional candidate to make a significant contribution to this growing School. University Lectureship in Organic Chemistry

The Department of Chemistry wishes to appoint a University Lecturer in Organic Chemistry to take up appointment on 1 October 2006, or as soon as possible thereafter. Applicants should have a strong research background in any branch of Organic Chemistry and must be able to teach at undergraduate level across a wide range of topics. The Department is particularly interested to hear from applicants with research interests in synthesis.

University Lectureship/University Senior Lectureship in Veterinary Anaesthesia

The Department of Veterinary Medicine is seeking to appoint a University Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in Veterinary Anaesthesia from 1 August 2006. The person appointed to this senior post will oversee the clinical anaesthesia service within the Queen's Veterinary School Hospital. The post-holder will be responsible for the didactic teaching of undergraduates and training Residents in veterinary anaesthesia and will contribute to the Hospital's out of hours rota. The successful candidate will be expected to develop a research programme in an appropriate area of interest.

Candidates must hold a veterinary degree registrable with the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons, have completed suitable training in veterinary anaesthesia, preferably by way of an approved Residency programme, and hold a European College Diploma in Anaesthesia. A Ph.D. Degree in a related area and a proven track record in research are desirable.

Senior Technical Officer (Prosector: Assistant Clinical Anatomist) in the Department of Physiology, Development, and Neuroscience

Applications are invited for the post of Senior Technical Officer (Prosector: Assistant Clinical Anatomist). The successful applicant will assist the University Clinical Anatomist in running the undergraduate teaching programme and postgraduate courses in topographical human anatomy. Duties include the provision of appropriate materials for teaching and examining and, in particular, the preparation and management of archival cadaveric specimens. The post-holder will also be involved in teaching of topographical anatomy and some aspects of developmental anatomy/embryology to students in the dissection room, as required by the University Clinical Anatomist. Candidates should have a B.Sc. Degree in Anatomy, or medical degree with additional experience in anatomical studies, and be skilled in anatomy prosection.

Appointment will be to the retiring age subject to the satisfactory completion of a probationary period. The pensionable scale of stipends for a Senior Technical Officer is £25,565 to £36,950 a year.

Computer Officer, Grade I (UNIX Support), in the Department of Chemistry

The Department of Chemistry seeks to appoint a Computer Officer, Grade I, to take up appointment at the earliest opportunity. The successful applicant will join a team responsible for all aspects of the Department's computing needs. Key responsibilities include all aspects of system administration and security of UNIX workstations and clusters, including installation and management of the Departmental webserver. General duties cover the installation and maintenance of office hardware and software (PC and Macintosh), and offering advice to users.

Applicants should have appropriate qualifications and relevant experience. Expert-level familiarity with UNIX system administration and Apache webservices is essential. Experience with Checkpoint 1 Firewall installations is highly desirable.

The position is available immediately, and appointment is subject to a probationary period of six months. The pensionable salary will be in the range of £35,254 to £39,452 a year (currently under review), according to experience.

Computer Officer, Grade II, in the Faculty of History

Applications are invited for a full-time Computer Officer, Grade II, based in the Faculty of History. The Faculty is seeking a highly motivated, problem-solving, innovative, and enthusiastic applicant who can communicate effectively with all levels of staff, and demonstrate proven experience of undertaking statistical analyses. The position is available immediately. The salary will be on the current scale of £31,274 to £33,646 a year.

The post-holder will be educated to graduate level (or equivalent) in an IT related subject. He/she will be expected to ensure the accurate collection and entry of RAE data, be proactive in updating the Faculty's website, and able to maintain and develop the Faculty's Access databases. The successful candidate will be responsible for all IT trouble-shooting within the Faculty, and will need to demonstrate experience of a wide range of software applications and general hardware problem solving skills. The post-holder will assist in the formulation of IT policy within the Faculty. He/she will manage the work of a Grade III Computer Officer, and will be expected to demonstrate leadership in expanding the Faculty's use of IT for teaching and research purposes. Flexibility in working practices and the ability to prioritize workloads without direct supervision are essential.

Physical Education Officer

Applications are invited for the position of Physical Education Officer at the University of Cambridge. The person appointed will join the Directorate in overseeing the development and management of sport within the University. Applicants should hold a degree in Sports Science, Physical Education, or related discipline. They should also have a higher degree and relevant experience in education, high-level performance, coaching, management, or health and fitness.

The pensionable scale of stipends for this post is £23,182-£30,002 a year (under review). The appointment will be subject to a nine-month probationary period with appointment to retirement thereafter.

Temporary Lectureship in English

This post is available for a fixed term during the appointment of Professor Mary Jacobus as Director of the Centre for Research in the Arts, Social Sciences, and Humanities. The post is available for one year or until Professor Jacobus returns to her full-time post, whichever is earlier. The post may be extended for a further limited period, subject to funding. The post is open to applicants with a primary research interest in any area of English literature, but the successful candidate will be expected to teach and examine in either Literary Theory/Psychoanalysis or Literature of the period 1688-1847, or both.

Curator in Human Evolutionary Anatomy, Duckworth Collection

Applications are invited for the position of Curator in Human Evolutionary Anatomy for the Duckworth Collection at the Leverhulme Centre for Human Evolutionary Studies. The prime criteria for appointment will be excellence in research in human evolutionary anatomy and experience with curation of human and non-human primate skeletal remains. The University expects to appoint someone who will develop a strong research programme in human evolution based on the study of the human skeleton, who will work with the Director of the Duckworth Laboratory in meeting the Collection's new repatriation policy, and who will contribute to the teaching of palaeobiology in the Department of Biological Anthropology at all levels. Chairman, University of Cambridge Veterinary School Trust (Exempt Charity No XO 979/86)

Established in 1983, the University of Cambridge Veterinary School Trust is a charity dedicated to raising funds in support of the Cambridge Veterinary School and Queen's Veterinary School Hospital and their aim of providing the best in animal healthcare. To date, the Trust has raised over £7m for a variety of projects, including Europe's first Cancer Therapy Unit for animals, a Small Animal Surgical Suite, an Equine Diagnostic and Rehabilitation Unit, and a Farm Animal Medicine Centre, plus many more facilities and equipment.

We are seeking a Chairman to provide leadership and direction to the Board of Trustees, enabling them to fulfil their responsibilities for the overall governance and strategic direction of the charity, in accordance with the governing document, legal, and regulatory guidelines. In addition, the Chairman will provide guidance and direction to the charity's Trust Office.
