Exeter College

ONE-YEAR STIPENDIARY LECTURESHIP IN ENGLISH

The College proposes, if there is a suitable candidate, to appoint a Stipendiary Lecturer in English, tenable from 1 October 2006 until 30 September 2007. The post is strictly temporary, to provide teaching required by the sabbatical leave of Ms Jeri Johnson. The salary will be in the range £18,925-£20,044 a year, depending on experience (subject to review). The successful candidate must be able to teach (i) for Moderations in English: English Literature 1832-1900; English Literature 1900-Present; and the Special Option Papers falling within these periods; and (ii) for the Final Honour School in English: Special Author and Special Options papers falling within these periods. An ability to teach one or more of the following will be considered an advantage: (i) Mods paper 4g: Introduction to Critical Theory; (ii) Schools papers 8e: American Literature, 8f: Women's Writing, and 8g: The History and Theory of Criticism. The Lecturer will be required to undertake tutorial or class teaching of undergraduates of the College (or by exchange with other Colleges) up to a maximum of twelve ('weighted') hours a week, averaged over the three terms of the academical year, to set and mark College examinations, to participate in the admissions process, and to liaise with Dr Helen Spencer and Dr Hugh Gazzard in the administration and organization of the subject in College.

BENNETT BOSKEY JUNIOR RESEARCH FELLOWSHIP AND LECTURESHIP IN POLITICS

Exeter College proposes to elect a Bennett Boskey Junior Research Fellow in Politics from 1 October 2006. The Fellowship is attached to a six-hour Stipendiary Lectureship in Politics, with a specialism in International Relations. Open equally to men and women, the Fellowship/Lectureship is strictly fixed-term and is tenable for two years in the first instance, renewable for a further period of one year only. An ability to teach relevant papers for the Preliminary Examination in the Honour School of Philosophy, Politics, and Economics will be an advantage. The College would ordinarily expect to appoint someone who has already obtained their doctorate, but is willing to consider applications from persons nearing the completion of same. The Fellowship/Lectureship brings a stipend of £15,740, accommodation in College, or in its lieu a housing allowance of £6,000, and membership of Governing Body.
