Christ's College

THREE NON-STIPENDIARY RESEARCH FELLOWSHIPS

The Governing Body of Christ's College invites applications for the following non-stipendiary Research Fellowships, tenable from 1 October 2006:

(i) J. B. and Millicent Kaye Prize Research Fellowship for Cancer Research

Applicants for this position, funded in memory of J. B. and Millicent Kaye, must have shown evidence of distinction in research relating to the origins, nature, prevention, or cure of cancer, interpreted in its broadest sense and including (but not limited to) studies of cell division, growth factors, oncogenes, and stem cells. The successful candidate should be employed as a post-doctoral research worker within the University of Cambridge and must not already hold a Fellowship or have a close association at another College. It is intended to give such researchers the opportunity to participate in collegiate life, to the mutual benefit of the individual and the College, with the aim of enhancing the individual's prospects of appointment to an established academic position. The Fellowship is tenable for a period of up to three years, with the possibility of an extension for a maximum of a further three years. The holder must remain in the employment of the University as a post-doctoral research worker. A limited amount of College teaching may be available during term time but is not a condition of the award.

(ii) Sackler and Cambridge Foundation Research Fellowship

Applicants for this position, funded by the Sackler and Cambridge Foundations as a tribute to Lord Broers, should be post-doctoral workers employed in the Schools of Biological Sciences, Physical Sciences, Clinical Medicine, or Technology in the University of Cambridge, who do not already hold a Fellowship or have a close association at another College. It is intended to give such researchers the opportunity to participate in collegiate life, to the mutual benefit of the individual and the College, with the aim of enhancing the individual's prospects of appointment to an established academic position. The Fellowship is tenable for a period of four years and is not renewable. The holder must remain in the employment of the University as a post-doctoral research worker. Preference may be given to candidates who would be willing to undertake four or more hours a week of College teaching of undergraduates during University terms (this corresponds to 80 hours a year).

(iii) Todd-Croucher Research Fellowship

Applicants for this position, funded by the Croucher Foundation in memory of Lord Todd, should be (a) Cambridge-based post-doctoral workers in the fields of Natural Science, Medicine, or Technology and (b) permanent residents of Hong Kong. A limited amount of College teaching may be available during term time but is not a condition of the award.

In each case, payment for teaching would be made at the normal College rates. The Fellow will be entitled to seven free meals a week, taken in College. Application forms and further details are available on the College website at www.christs.cam.ac.uk/collegeinfo/researchfellowships/, and may also be requested from Mrs Sandra Nowottny, the Master's Assistant, Christ's College, Cambridge, CB2 3BU (e-mail scn23@cam.ac.uk). A completed application form, together with a curriculum vitae and a statement of about 500 words describing the candidate's current and proposed research, should be sent to the Master's Assistant, so as to reach her no later than 5 p.m. on 18 April 2006. Candidates should arrange for two academic references to be sent independently to the Master's Assistant by the same date. Envelopes should be clearly marked with the name of the Fellowship(s) for which application is made. Short-listed candidates may be invited for interview. Late applications cannot be accepted.
