Examination in Public Health for the degree of Master of Philosophy (one-year course)

On the recommendation of the Joint Degree Committee for the Faculties of Clinical Medicine and Veterinary Medicine, the General Board and the Board of Graduate Studies have approved Public Health as a subject for further study and training in research for the M.Phil. Degree (one-year course), with effect from 1 October 2006. Special regulations for the examination in the subject have been approved as follows:

Public Health

1. The scheme of examination for the one-year course of study in Public Health for the degree of Master of Philosophy shall consist of:

(a)a thesis, not exceeding 20,000 words in length, including footnotes, but excluding tables, appendices, and bibliography, on a subject approved by the Joint Degree Committee for the Faculties of Clinical Medicine and Veterinary Medicine;
(b)two written papers of three hours in length which may cover all the areas of study prescribed in the syllabus;
(c)two essays, each not exceeding 3,000 words in length, on subjects approved by the Degree Committee.

2. The examination shall include an oral examination on the thesis and on the general field of knowledge within which it falls, and, at the discretion of the Examiners, on any other component of the examination submitted by the candidate; save that the Examiners may, at their discretion, waive the requirement for an oral examination.
