University of Oxford

PROFESSORSHIP OF INTEGRATIVE SYSTEMS BIOLOGY

Applications are invited for the above post, tenable from 1 January 2007, or such later date as may be arranged. The University is committed to developing Systems Approaches across the Biosciences and as part of this commitment it has created a new Chair in Integrative Systems Biology to spearhead these approaches across the University. While the Chair will be based within the Biochemistry Department, the appointee will be expected to work across Departments and Divisions, bringing together research teams from the Physical and Biomedical Sciences.

The University recognizes the importance of exploiting the development of fast throughput technologies and subsequent data-rich areas in Biomedical Sciences. This requires a new research vision which complements those already in place. The establishment of the Chair, along with the development of a Centre for Integrative Systems Biology, will provide the focus for the development and exploitation of new synergistic groupings across Divisions. The new Professor will be expected to provide leadership in the development of new cross-divisional, systems-based initiatives. The Chair is expected to complement the Chairs already in place in Bioinformatics and Mathematical Biology and to bridge the gap between modelling at a molecular level and modelling at a cellular and organismal level.

A non-stipendiary Fellowship at Merton College is attached to the Professorship. Further particulars, including details of how to apply, are available from http://www.admin.ox.ac.uk/fp/ or from the Registrar, University Offices, Wellington Square, Oxford, OX1 2JD (tel. 01865 270200). The closing date for applications is 3 April.
