Pembroke College

DEAN AND CHAPLAIN

The College proposes to appoint a suitably qualified candidate to the office of Dean and Chaplain from 1 September 2006, or as soon as possible thereafter, upon the retirement of Canon Brian Watchorn, on 30 September 2006. Applications are invited from graduates who are ordained priests of the Church of England, or of a Church in full communion with the Church of England. The principal duties of the Dean, who holds an Official Fellowship, are the provision of Divine Worship in the College Chapel, which is in the central Anglican tradition, and the pastoral care of all resident members of the College community - staff, students, and Fellows. The Dean works closely with the Director of College Music, to ensure the maintenance and development of the College Chapel's strong musical tradition, and with the College's Tutors; the Dean also oversees the pastoral liaison between the College and its mission, Pembroke House, in Walworth, South London. It is expected that the successful candidate will direct studies in Theology, in which the College has a particularly strong recent record.

The appointment will be for five years, subject to a year's probationary period, on the current scale of £25,565 to £39,452; the College has a code of practice for reappointment to the retirement age. A study and accommodation on or near the College site will be provided, and, in addition to the usual rights and privileges of an Official Fellowship, including support for research and sabbatical leave, the successful candidate will receive a generous entertainment allowance, to facilitate care for the College community.

Further particulars and application forms are available from the Senior Tutor's Secretary, and online at http://www.pem.cam.ac.uk/jobs. Applications, which should also include an introductory letter, are due by noon on 21 February 2006. Applicants should ask two referees to write on their behalf to the Senior Tutor's Secretary by the same date.
