Second Report of the General Board on the establishment of a Professorship of Management Studies

The GENERAL BOARD beg leave to report to the University as follows:

1. In their Report, dated 13 April 2005 (Reporter, 2004-05, p. 631), the General Board recommended approval of a procedure for the establishment of a Professorship of Management Studies in the Judge Institute of Management, for one tenure, to be held concurrently with the Directorship of the Institute for an initial period of six years in the first instance. The procedure was approved by Grace 3 of 6 July 2005, and was accordingly put into effect. The following were appointed to an Advisory Committee (Reporter, 2005-06, p. 34): The Vice-Chancellor (in the Chair), Professor Sir George Bain, Mr Ian Davis (McKinsey & Company), Dr DeAnne Julius (Chatham House), Professor Robert Mair, JE, Professor Geoffrey Meeks, DAR, Professor Richard Schmalensee (Massachusetts Institute of Technology), Professor Stefan Scholtes, Professor Geoffrey Walsham, Professor Ian White, JE, and Professor Hugh Willmott. The Advisory Committee subsequently recommended that Professor Arnoud De Meyer, Professor of Technology Management and Deputy Dean, INSEAD, be appointed to the Professorship of Management Studies, from 1 September 2006 to the retiring age and also to the Directorship on the basis proposed in the Board's Report.

2. The Board accordingly propose that the Professorship should be established, as specified above, for the tenure of the person named, and that for an initial period of six years in the first instance it be held concurrently with the Directorship of the Judge Institute of Management.

3. The General Board recommend:

I. That a Professorship of Management Studies be established in the University from 1 September 2006 for the tenure of Professor Arnoud De Meyer, placed in Schedule B of the Statutes, and assigned to the Judge Institute of Management.

II. That special regulations for the Professorship of Management Studies, as set out in the Schedule to this Report, be approved.

SCHEDULE

Professorship of Management Studies. 2006. Judge Institute of Management

1. The Professorship of Management Studies shall be limited to one tenure.

2. The Professor shall be Director of the Judge Institute of Management for an initial period of six years in the first instance and shall be eligible for reappointment by the General Board for a further period of up to four years.
