Court of Discipline: Notice

The Court of Discipline met on 10 October 2005 to consider a charge brought by the University Advocate on a complaint by the Junior Proctor against a candidate for Part IB of the Land Economy Tripos. The members of the Court were: Mr A. D. Yates (Chairman), Dr G. Jondorf, Mr A. D. Lemons, Mr D. Barrowclough, and Ms C. Rusby. Mr I. D. Troupe acted as Clerk of the Court with Ms A. Bray-Allen as his assistant. The Chairman accepted the defendant's request that the Court should sit in camera.

The defendant was charged with offences contrary to Regulation 6 of the General Regulations for Discipline in that the candidate had used unfair means in an examination as part of Part IB of the Land Economy Tripos, and in that the candidate was in possession of material relevant to the examination which they were not specifically authorized to possess. The candidate was not charged with use of the material. The defendant pleaded guilty. The Advocate outlined the circumstances of the case. The defendant's representative presented the defendant's case. The Court concluded that the charges brought by the Advocate were proved. The Court imposed a penalty where the candidate was to be awarded an Ordinary Pass for Part IB of the Land Economy Tripos. The Examiners were so informed in order that they could adjust the marks overall and the Vice-Chancellor was advised to amend and re-issue the class-list.
