PROFESSORSHIP OF MICROBIOLOGY

Applications are invited for the above post, tenable from October 2006 or such later date as may be arranged. The successful candidate will be expected to show evidence of academic leadership in the area of Microbiology and demonstrate an ability to secure long-term funding for research. The post-holder will be expected to contribute to the organization and delivery of undergraduate and graduate courses.

A non-stipendiary Fellowship at Wadham College is attached to the Professorship. The closing date for applications is 6 March.

ANNE T. AND ROBERT M. BASS PROFESSORSHIP OF DEVELOPMENTAL AND STEM CELL BIOLOGY

Applications are invited for the above post, tenable from January 2006 or such later date as may be arranged. The Professor will be responsible for providing leadership across the Division of Medical Sciences in this important scientific arena, linking basic science development in the pre-clinical and clinical schools with more applied regenerative medicine in the clinical Departments. He or she will be a scientist of exceptional ability and international standing and will have the demonstrable ability to direct and organize basic research and/or translational research in the area of developmental biology or regenerative medicine.

A non-stipendiary Fellowship at St Cross College is attached to the Professorship. The closing date for applications is 27 February.

BP RESEARCH PROFESSORSHIP IN ECONOMICS

The University wishes to elect a Professor in Economics in the Department of Economics to take the intellectual lead in the work of OxCarre as its director. The Professorship is associated with a Fellowship at New College.

The person appointed will have an outstanding research and publication record in the area of macroeconomics. It is expected that he or she will benefit from Oxford's international renown as a base for their own research activities. The closing date for applications is 6 March.

SIBTHORPIAN PROFESSORSHIP OF PLANT SCIENCE SHERARDIAN PROFESSORSHIP OF BOTANY

Applications are invited for the above posts, tenable from 1 October 2006, or such later date as may be arranged. Following a recent review of the biosciences the University is now investing in the future of the Plant Sciences in the form of these two proleptic appointments.

The chairs are two of the most prestigious in their subjects in the UK, and it is the intent of the University to appoint only individuals of the highest calibre.

The Sibthorpian Professorship was established in 1796, and the post is to be filled in anticipation of the retirement of Professor C. J. Leaver, CBE, FRS, FRSE, in October 2007. The successful candidate will have an international research reputation in the molecular/cellular aspects of plant science.

The Sherardian Professorship was established in 1734, and the post is now to be filled in anticipation of the retirement of Professor H. G. Dickinson in September 2009. The successful candidate will have an international research reputation in organismal aspects of plant science.

Non-stipendiary Fellowships are attached to both posts: at St John's College for the Sibthorpian Professorship, and at Magdalen College for the Sherardian Professorship. The closing date for applications for each post is 6 March.

PRO-VICE-CHANCELLOR FOR RESEARCH, ACADEMIC SERVICES, AND UNIVERSITY COLLECTIONS

The University of Oxford seeks to appoint a Pro-Vice-Chancellor, from 1 July 2006 or as soon as possible thereafter, following the appointment of Professor N. J. Thrift, FBA (currently Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Research) to the Vice-Chancellorship of the University of Warwick. This is a full-time position within the University, with responsibility for two major strands of the University's activities. The closing date for applications is 27 February.
