Preliminary Examination for the Oriental Studies Tripos, 2006

The Faculty of Oriental Studies give notice that, with effect from the examination to be held in 2006, the form of the examinations for the Preliminary Examination for Part I of the Oriental Studies Tripos will be changed as follows:

HP.3 Modern Hebrew language and literature

The paper consists of five sections:

Section A contains a passage in Modern Hebrew for summary in English; Section B consists of questions testing students knowledge of Hebrew syntax and grammar; Section C contains a passage in Modern Hebrew for translation into English; Section D contains four subjects for composition in Modern Hebrew, of which two must be attempted; Section E contains essay questions (to be answered in English) on Modern Hebrew literary history (nineteenth and twentieth centuries), of which students are required to answer two.

Students taking HP.4 should answer sections A, B, C, and D. Students taking HP.1 or HP.2 as part of their Hebrew half-subject should answer sections A, B, D (one subject only), and E.
