University Lecturer and University Senior Lecturer in the Department of Biochemistry

The Department of Biochemistry in the School of Biological Sciences seeks applicants with outstanding research programmes and enthusiasm for teaching to appoint to a University Senior Lectureship starting on 1 October 2006 and to a University Lectureship starting on 1 October 2007.

The Department intends to develop its commitment to Structural and Functional Genomics within its areas of particular research strength in Structural Biology, Molecular Enzymology, DNA and RNA Biochemistry, Plant Biochemistry, Molecular Microbiology, Molecular Neurobiology, Cardiovascular Biology, and Molecular Cell Pathology. Applications will be welcome from candidates with interests in any of these areas.

The successful applicants will be expected to initiate an independent programme of research in biochemistry and the duties of the posts will include contributions to undergraduate teaching, with opportunities in both the Natural Sciences Tripos (years 1-4) and the Medical and Veterinary Sciences Tripos (year 1).

The pensionable scale of stipends for a University Lecturer is £25,565 to £39,452 a year. The pensionable scale of stipends for a University Senior Lecturer is £41,747 to £43,850 a year.

Manager of Childcare Services in the Childcare Office of the Personnel Division of the University Offices

Applications are invited for the post of Manager of Childcare Services. The post-holder will be responsible for the overall management, co-ordination, and administration of the University's childcare service to staff and students. The University operates two nurseries run by an external provider with a total capacity of 130 full-time equivalent, and a holiday playscheme managed in-house accommodating nearly 500 children over the year. The post-holder will manage the interface between the nursery provider, the University, and parents, the operation of the holiday playscheme, the provision of information on all aspects of childcare within and outside the University to staff and student parents, and oversee two salary sacrifice schemes which give staff parents access to tax-effective means of paying for childcare. The post-holder will also act as secretary to the University's childcare committees and advise them on the implications of changes in legislation.

Applicants should be educated to degree level or equivalent, and will have excellent management, communication, and financial management skills, as well as a good knowledge of childcare and relevant legislation.

The pensionable scale of stipends for an Administrative Officer, Grade I, is £27,939 to £33,646 a year. The appointment will be for three years in the first instance although it is expected that it will be possible for funding to be obtained to continue the post. The appointment is subject to a probationary period of six months.
