Philosophical Society

On 28 November at 8.30 p.m. in the Cockcroft Lecture Theatre, New Museums Site, Professor Dame Jean O. Thomas, FRS, of the Department of Biochemistry, will deliver a lecture entitled Packaging the genome: chromatin, DNA architecture, and the role of proteins. All who are interested are invited.

At a meeting held on 14 November in the Cockcroft Lecture Theatre, Professor H. Ahmed, President, was in the Chair.

Professor Robin Carrell, FRS, of the Department of Haematology, delivered a lecture entitled In sickness and in health - how proteins change their shape. A vote of thanks was moved by Professor Tim Cox.

ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING

The Annual General Meeting of the Society was held on 31 October in the Arts School, Bene't Street at 4 p.m.

Professor H. Ahmed, President, was in the Chair.

  1. The Treasurer presented the audited accounts for the period January to December 2004, which were adopted.
  2. The following Officers and Members of Council were elected for the year 2006:

  3. Twenty-five Fellows were elected and no Fellows were re-elected. It was reported that since the last Annual General Meeting nine Fellows had died and two hundred and sixty-nine had resigned.
  4. Messrs Peters Elworthy & Moore were appointed to act as Auditors for the year 2005.
