Computer Science Tripos, 2006

The Computer Science Syndicate give notice that, with effect from the examination to be held in 2006, the form of the examination for the Computer Science Tripos, Parts IA and IB will be changed as follows:

Part IA

Paper 1 will be divided into five sections. Section A will contain one question on foundations of computer science, one on operating systems, one on programming in Java, and one on algorithms. Section B will contain two questions on foundations of computer science. Section C will contain two questions on operating systems. Section D will contain two questions on programming in Java. Section E will contain two questions on Algorithms. Candidates will be expected to answer two questions from Section A and one question from each of Sections B, C, D, and E. Each Section will carry the same weight.

Paper 2 will be divided into four sections. Section A will contain two questions on digital electronics. Sections B and C will each contain two questions on discrete mathematics. Section D will contain three questions which will cover material taken from the courses on software design, regular languages and finite automata, computer perspectives, and professional practice and ethics. Candidates will be expected to answer one question from each of Sections A, B, and C, and two questions from Section D. Each question will carry the same weight.

Part IB

Papers 3 and 4 of the Computer Science Tripos will each contain ten questions instead of nine questions.
