PROFESSORSHIP OF COMPUTING SYSTEMS

Applications are invited for the above Professorship, tenable from 1 October 2006, or such later date as may be arranged. A non-stipendiary Fellowship at Trinity College is attached to the Professorship.

The Professorship of Computing Systems is a new chair intended to expand the involvement of Oxford's Computing Laboratory in practical areas of computer science. On this occasion the University has a preference for candidates with expertise in the area of distributed systems, interpreted broadly. For example, it would welcome applicants whose work has some relation to the systems used in e-science and other GRID-base computing paradigms. Candidates in applied areas of computer science other than distributed systems area are also welcome to apply. The University expects that the appointee, who will be of the highest international distinction, will encourage the pursuit of excellence in computer science and play a leading role in the Department through his or her own research and teaching. The Professor will also be expected to contribute to the research leadership of the laboratory.
