Oppenheimer Research Fellowship: Notice

Applications are invited for an Ernest Oppenheimer Early Career Research Fellowship to be held at the University of Cambridge in the broadly interpreted fields of colloid science and surface chemistry, including applications to metallurgical reactions and biological systems. These Fellowships are intended to provide an opportunity in independent research, although the holders usually work in close collaboration with an established research group. Applications are encouraged from women and men who have completed or expect to have completed a Ph.D. Degree by 1 October 2006, as well as from those who have spent a cumulative total of not more than three years in postdoctoral research. The University is committed to equality of opportunity.

Tenure is for three years in an appropriate Department commencing normally from 1 October 2006. The stipend range is between £20,044 and £30,002. A contribution will be made towards travel and removal expenses, and up to £10,000 a year will be made available for research expenses.

Applications should reach the Secretary of the Committee of Management, School of Physical Sciences, 17 Mill Lane, Cambridge, CB2 1RX, by 27 January 2006 and should be accompanied by ten copies of:

(a) a curriculum vitae (no more than two pages) including details of academic career, qualifications, any relevant teaching experience, and a list of papers published and in press
(b) statements of up to 1,000 words each, describing respectively the applicant's previous and current research, and the proposed research programme
(c) the names, addresses, and e-mail addresses of not more than two persons who would be willing to give a confidential assessment of the applicant's research to the Committee of Management, at least one of whom should be an external referee; candidates are requested to ask their referees to write direct to the Secretary by the closing date
(d) the written approval of the Head of the Department in Cambridge in which the applicant hopes to work
