Antiquarian Society

The next meeting, in association with the Society for the Promotion of Roman Studies, will be held at 6 p.m. on 7 November, in the Faculty of Law Building, West Road. Dr Ian Haynes will speak on Life in the roman auxilia. Members of the Society may bring guests and students are warmly invited to attend.

The annual conference on Recent archaeological work in Cambridgeshire will be held at on 19 November, in Room LG 17, Faculty of Law Building, West Road. From 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. there will be free entry to exhibitions of artefacts and recent work.

Talks will be given between 2 p.m. and 5.30 p.m. (with tea at 3.30 p.m.). An admission fee of £3 is payable at the door.

Session 1. Rural sites: S. Oosthuizen, Introduction; M. Coles, Highlights from local groups; M. Hinman, Iron Age/Roman excavations at Love's Farm; C. Evans, and R. Patten, Bronze and Iron Age wells of Longstanton and the Vikings at Earith.

Session 2. Urban sites: N. James, Introduction; K. Gdaniec, Development-led archaeology; A. Connor, Huntingdon town centre medieval excavations; A. Dickens, Rediscovering the King's ditch: excavations at the Grand Arcade.
