Merton College

STIPENDIARY LECTURESHIP IN PHILOSOPHY

Merton College proposes to appoint a stipendiary Lecturer in Philosophy to teach up to four hours a week in full term, during Hilary and Trinity Terms 2006. The Lecturer will be paid a stipend of £4,325 (2004-05 rates) with entitlement to join USS and membership of Common Room with the right to take some meals free of charge.

The successful candidate should have completed (or be about to complete) his/her doctoral studies in a relevant field within Philosophy and will be able to teach some of the following subjects: General Philosophy, for Mods and Prelims; Philosophy of Religion, Philosophy of Logic and Language, Philosophy of Mind, or Aesthetics, for Finals. In addition to his/her teaching duties, the successful candidate will be expected to help with the organization of subjects involving Philosophy within College and to lend pastoral support to students reading for these degrees.

ACADEMIC ADMINISTRATOR

Merton College invites applications for the new full-time post of Academic Administrator to commence on 1 January 2006. This will be the senior position in the Tutorial Office, a small team which handles all of the College's academic administration including admissions, registration, induction, progress, examinations, and academic committees, under the direction of the Senior Tutor. The post offers a challenging opportunity to work with a wide range of people within and outside College and to develop the Tutorial Office's procedures in support of Merton's academic staff and around 500 students.

Applicants must have a first degree or equivalent; relevant administrative experience; highly developed interpersonal, communication, organizational and IT skills; and an interest in contributing to the objectives of the College.

The post attracts a salary of around £32,000 a year and benefits include a contributory staff pension scheme; medical insurance; free lunch when on duty; training opportunities; and holiday entitlement of 38 days a year.
