University Lecturers

Appointments made at University Lecturer level will be for a probationary period of five years, with appointment to the retiring age thereafter. The pensionable scale of stipends for a University Lecturer is currently £24,820 to £38,303 a year.

University Lecturer in the Department of French

The Department of French intends to appoint a specialist in the field of seventeenth-century French studies. The Department would particularly welcome applications from those who approach Early Modern Literature from a critical theory perspective, or who work on the philosophy or thought of the period. An ability to contribute also to one or more of the Department's other papers may be an advantage. The successful candidate for the post should have either a record of research and publication in the field or be able to demonstrate clear potential for publication. He or she will be expected to take a leading role in the teaching of seventeenth-century French literature at undergraduate level, to collaborate in the teaching of the Faculty's M.Phil. course in European Literature and Culture (notably in the module on 'Knowledge and Experience: from Rabelais to Rousseau' and also ideally to the Critical Theory Core Course and the comparative module on 'The History of the Book 1450-1650'), and to supervise Ph.D. students. The appointment will be from 1 January 2006 or as soon as possible thereafter. (The successful candidate may also have the opportunity to take up the appointment earlier, from 1 October 2005, if convenient.)

University Lecturer in the Department of Linguistics

The Department of Linguistics invites applications for a University Lecturer in Linguistics to teach theoretically broadly based courses in Morphology and Phonology, and to contribute to other aspects of the Department's teaching (particularly the Structure of English and Historical Linguistics), to take up appointment on 1 January 2006, or as soon as possible thereafter. The successful candidate will be expected to show outstanding achievement and potential in theoretically driven research and publication in one or more of these fields, and to be able to make a full contribution to departmental administration.

Advisory Officer, Grade I (Energy Officer)

Applications are invited for the post of Energy Officer in EMBS. Based in a small team, and reporting to the Energy Manager, the post-holder will be responsible for conducting energy surveys of University buildings, as well as identifying and managing practical and cost-effective energy conservation works through to completion.

Applicants should have a sound technical background with at least five years' practical experience in the design or maintenance of building services, and display excellent communication skills. They should also hold at least an HNC/HND in a relevant discipline.

Appointment will be to the retiring age subject to satisfactory completion of a probationary period. The pensionable scale of stipends for an Advisory Officer, Grade I, is currently £27,117 to £32,666 a year.

Advisory Officer, Grade I (Building Surveyor (Statutory Compliance))

Applications are invited for the post of Building Surveyor (Statutory Compliance) in EMBS. Based in the Maintenance and Minor Works Section, the post-holder will be responsible for managing the legislative maintenance requirements relating to the building fabric of the University's Estate.

Applicants should have graduated in a building discipline and have acquired or be working towards affiliation with a professional body (MRICS or equivalent). Experience of delivering a surveying service to a portfolio of buildings will be necessary, together with an in-depth knowledge of recent legislative requirements, including those relating to asbestos.

Executive Director of the Cambridge-MIT Institute Limited

The University is seeking to appoint the Cambridge Executive Director for the Cambridge-MIT (CMI) collaboration in succession to Professor Mike Kelly, who will be finishing his secondment following his successful leadership of CMI's Cambridge based activities. The exact start time is negotiable, but will be sometime in 2005.

The Executive Director will be responsible to the CMI Board for the further development of the Institute and its activities. S/he will be a Director of CMI Ltd, the joint venture vehicle established by the University and by MIT.

This is a part-time appointment which, over a year, is expected to average approximately four days a week. Payment will be linked to the professorial scale at the University with additional payment for administrative responsibility. In the case of an appointee already holding a University office, the post will be filled by secondment.

The Cambridge Executive Director will be someone with a high academic reputation, with a good understanding of Cambridge, and experienced in management.

Temporary Lecturer in American Literature

The Faculty is seeking to appoint a Lecturer to cover maternity and sabbatical periods of leave. The person appointed will be expected to contribute to the teaching of existing undergraduate courses and postgraduate courses in American literature (pre-1900).

Temporary Lecturer in Commonwealth and International Literature

The Faculty is seeking to appoint to this one-year post. Applications are invited particularly from those with expertise in African and Caribbean literature. The person appointed will be expected to contribute to the teaching of an optional paper in the undergraduate course, and to teaching and supervision at M.Phil. and Ph.D. Degree level.
