Temporary Post

Unestablished Lectorship in Chinese in the Faculty of Oriental Studies

Applications are invited for a one-year unestablished Lectorship in Chinese in the Faculty of Oriental Studies, starting on 1 October 2005.

The holder of the office will be expected to teach Chinese language courses, both undergraduate and postgraduate, at all levels. Applications are invited from candidates with a good first degree and experience of teaching Chinese as a foreign language in a university. A good command of written and spoken English is essential. Preference will be given to candidates with experience in computer assisted language teaching and with training in foreign language education; knowledge of syllabus design and material development would be a plus. The salary scale for this post is from £16,149 to £19,460.

Applications, including a application form, a curriculum vitae, and the names and addresses of two referees, should be sent to Mrs Jane Fisher-Hunt, Secretary to the Selection Committee, Faculty of Oriental Studies, Sidgwick Avenue, Cambridge, CB3 9DA (tel. 01223 335107, fax 01223 335110, e-mail fjf24@cam.ac.uk), so as to reach her by noon on 23 May. Two references are required for each application and the applicant should ask the referees to make sure that the reference reaches the Secretary by the same deadline.

It is hoped that the trial teaching and interviews will take place on 26 May. Information regarding the exact time and location for the trial teaching and the interview will be sent by e-mail to those short-listed on 23 May. Further details are available from the Secretary, and may also be found on the Faculty website at http://www.oriental.cam.ac.uk/.
