HENRY SIDGWICK MEMORIAL LECTURE

The Baroness Hale of Richmond, DBE, Lord of Appeal in Ordinary, will give the Henry Sidgwick Memorial Lecture, entitled Making a difference? Diversity in the Judiciary, at 5.30 p.m. on 29 April, in the Faculty of Law, West Road. All are welcome.

ASSOCIATE LECTURESHIP IN PHYSICAL SCIENCES

Newnham College invites applications from women and men for an Associate Lectureship involving the equivalent of three hours' teaching a week during Full Term time (20 weeks of the year), primarily to Part I students. Associate Lecturers are also expected to take an interest in the promotion of their subject among students of the College.

The person appointed will have interests in teaching and research in any field of the physical sciences, but the immediate need is for teaching in Part IA and IB Physics, and in Part IA Mathematics for the Natural Sciences Tripos. Experience in supervising one or more of these courses is desirable.

The College pays Associate Lecturers at 25 per cent above the usual supervision rates, offers seven meals a week without charge during Term, use of IT equipment, and use of a room for conducting teaching. The post will be tenable only in conjunction with another salaried academic or research appointment in the University of Cambridge or local research institution. It will be tenable from 1 October 2005, for one year in the first instance and may be renewed on an annual basis following a review.

Further particulars and details of the application procedure may be obtained from the College website (http://www/newn.cam.ac.uk/) or the Principal's Secretary, Newnham College, Cambridge, CB3 9DF (tel. 01223 330469, e-mail smc26@cam.ac.uk). The closing date for applications is 20 May.
