With effect from 1 October 2006

The regulations have been amended as follows to withdraw Paper 2 and thereby change the combination of papers to be taken.

Regulations 11, 12(a), and 13(a).

By removing the references to Paper 2 'Language history and use'.

Regulation 12(b).

By amending this sub-paragraph so as to read:

(b)two papers chosen from Group B;

Regulation 13(b).

By amending this sub-paragraph to read:

(b)eitherthree papers chosen from Group B,
 ortwo papers chosen from Group B and a dissertation offered in accordance with the requirement of Regulation 14;

Preliminary Examination

With effect from 1 October 2005

As a result of the changes to the titles of Papers Li. 1 and Li. 2 in the Modern and Medieval Tripos (see below), the titles of Papers 1 and 2 have been amended as follows:

Regulation 2.

Paper 1 from 'Introduction to linguistic theory' to 'General linguistics'.

Paper 2 from 'Introduction to language history and use' to 'Language variation'.

Regulation 3.

By amending the regulation so as to read:

3. Each candidate shall offer either Papers 1 or 2, and three other papers; provided that

(i)a candidate who has previously offered Paper Li. 1 or Paper Li. 2 in the Modern and Medieval Languages Tripos shall offer Paper 2 or Paper 1 above respectively;
(ii)a candidate who has previously offered both Papers Li. 1 and Li. 2 in the Modern and Medieval Languages Tripos shall offer, instead of Paper 1 or Paper 2 above, Paper 1 (Linguistic theory) of the Linguistics Tripos.
