Rank Professorship of Engineering: Notice

The Board of Electors to the Rank Professorship of Engineering invite applications for this Professorship and it is hoped that the successful candidate will take up appointment as soon as possible. Candidates are expected to have an international reputation in their field of specialization, which may be in any branch of fluid mechanics and thermodynamics applied to gas turbines for aircraft engines, power generation, or marine propulsion. Particular areas of interest are turbomachinery aerodynamics, heat transfer, acoustics, flow control, engine performance, or computational fluid dynamics applied to turbomachinery. It is expected that the Professor will be based at the Whittle Laboratory of the Department of Engineering, which is one of the world's leading centres for turbomachinery research. The Professor will be expected to be willing to be Director of the Whittle Laboratory, provide leadership in research, to supervise research projects and graduate students, and to undertake undergraduate teaching in the Department of Engineering.
