SENIOR TUTORSHIP AND OFFICIAL FELLOWSHIP

Applications are invited for the post of full-time Senior Tutor, with effect from 1 October 2005.

The Senior Tutor will be a Fellow and member of the College's Governing Body. The Senior Tutor will have responsibility under the Tutorial Board for all junior members (undergraduates and graduates) in residence. He/she will effectively be the Principal Officer of the Tutorial Board. The position involves no teaching or research duties. It is expected that the successful candidate will have had experience as an academic, and will be someone who wishes to re-focus his/her career to provide strategic thinking, administrative support, and all-round service to a distinguished academic community.

STIPENDIARY LECTURESHIP IN INORGANIC CHEMISTRY

The College invites applications for a one-year, fixed-term Stipendiary Lectureship in Inorganic Chemistry from 1 October 2005 until 31 July 2006. The stipend payable is on the scale of £9,730 to £11,254. The Lecturer will be required to undertake six tutorial hours (weighted hours) a week of teaching for the College. Applicants should hold a doctoral degree. STIPENDIARY LECTURESHIP IN MODERN BRITISH HISTORY

The College invites applications for a one-year, fixed-term Stipendiary Lectureship in nineteenth- and twentieth-century British history from 1 October 2005 to 31 July 2006. The stipend payable is on the scale of £19,460 to £22,507. The Lecturer will be required to undertake up to eight contact hours a week of tutorial teaching for Magdalen College and up to 16 hours over the year of lectures or classes for the Faculty of Modern History. Applications in all fields of nineteenth- and twentieth- century British History are welcomed and applicants should hold, or be about to be awarded, a doctoral degree. LIBRARIAN AND ARCHIVIST GRADUATE TRAINEE

The College is seeking a graduate for a one-year internship (1 October 2005 to 30 September 2006) in its Libraries and Archives. This is an unusual opportunity for someone who wishes to gain experience of both library and archives work before pursuing further qualifications.

All applicants should have a first degree and serious intentions of pursuing a career in professional librarianship or archives work. It is expected that the successful candidate will apply to library or archives school during their year at Magdalen. The Graduate Trainee's time will be divided between the College Archives and Libraries, where there will be a variety of training and duties, such as answering queries, cataloguing, setting up exhibitions, learning conservation methods, and assisting with general administration. Training will include formal short courses, for example in IT skills, depending on the trainee's particulars interests.

Salary is £11,960 (with a pay increase after a three-month probationary period), and free lunch in College is offered when the kitchen is open. The closing date for applications is 22 April.
