Announcement of lectures and seminars

The following lectures and seminars will be open to members of the University and others who are interested:

4 May Import and assembly of mitochondrial proteins, by Professor Nikolaus Pfanner, of the University of Freiburg. Host: Mike Murphy.
18 May Type IV pilus dynamics studied at the single molecule level: molecular machines, switches, and DNA transport, by Professor Berenike Maier, of Ludwig-Maximilians University, Munich. Host: John Walker.
8 June Life in the extreme: enzyme structure, stability, and activity at extreme temperatures, by Professor Michael J. Danson, of the University of Bath. Host: Graduate Student Society.

It is regretted that the Third Annual Sir William Dunn Lecture, scheduled to take place on 14 April, has been cancelled.

Pure Mathematics and Mathematical Statistics. Professor K. Fujiwara, of Nagoya University, will give the Forty-seventh Kuwait Foundation Lecture, entitled Counting the number of solutions in finite fields, on 26 April.

Professor P. Cohen, of Texas A & M University, will give the Forty-eighth Kuwait Foundation Lecture, entitled Modular and hypergeometric functions, transcendence, and monodromy, on 3 May.

Both lectures will take place in the Wolfson Room, Centre for Mathematical Sciences, Wilberforce Road, at 5 p.m.
