REGIUS PROFESSORSHIP OF CIVIL LAW

A Regius Professor of Civil Law is due to be appointed by Her Majesty the Queen with effect from 1 October 2005 or such later date as may be arranged, in succession to the late Professor Peter Birks, FBA. A non-stipendiary Fellowship at All Souls is attached to the Professorship.

The Regius Professor of Civil Law is appointed to lecture and give instruction in Roman Law, its principles and history, and in some other branch of law. The appointee will be a scholar of distinction who will exercise leadership in research and develop graduate studies in his or her area of specialization. He or she will also be expected to take a leading part in developing the work of the faculty generally.

DEPARTMENTAL LECTURESHIP IN ISLAMIC HISTORY

The University proposes to appoint a Departmental Lecturer in Islamic History. The appointment will run for two years from l October 2005. Candidates should have a primary field of expertise in the social or political history of Islam from its beginnings to c. 1100. Candidates should hold, or be working towards, a doctorate in the field, and be able to provide evidence of published, or soon to be published, research. Candidates should be able to teach and examine Islamic history, including historical texts in Arabic. The post-holder will be required to give lectures, classes, and tutorials in Islamic history and to examine as required.

The salary will be in the range of £19,460 to £25,699 a year.
