Assistant Registrary in the Academic Division of the University Offices (International Education Office)

Applications are invited for the office of Assistant Registrary with duties as Head of the International Education Office. Managing a small team, the post-holder's duties will include: co-ordinating administrative support for student exchange schemes; contributing to the development of international strategies; advising colleagues throughout the University on international matters; and liaison with overseas institutions and relevant international agencies.

Candidates will be educated to degree level and have substantial relevant experience in an administrative post, including proven ability both to provide strategic input and to maintain effective and efficient operational processes.

Appointment will be to the retiring age subject to the satisfactory completion of a probationary period. The pensionable scale of stipends for an Assistant Registrary is £24,820 to £38,303 a year.

Librarian (Grade C) in the Whipple Library of the Department of History and Philosophy of Science

This post offers an opportunity for an ambitious librarian wishing to manage a modern effective library in an academic department. In 2006 there are plans for the Whipple Library to be extended and moved into a newly refurbished building. The Department is seeking an innovative and enthusiastic librarian to help with the design, oversee the move, and manage the installation. Once the move has been made, specific responsibilities will include reader services, staff management, administrative planning, budgeting, and collection development. In addition to its regular holdings the Library also possesses an important rare books collection.

This post is an ideal opportunity for someone to develop skills in library and project management. Candidates should have a good honours degree and a postgraduate qualification in librarianship and/or information studies, together with at least three years' post-qualification experience in an academic library. Excellent IT skills and knowledge of automated library systems and MARC21 cataloguing are essential. Experience of working with a rare book collection would be an asset.

The pensionable scale of stipends for a Librarian, Grade C, is £19,460 to £23,643 a year. The appointment is subject to a nine-month probationary period.
