Announcement of lectures, seminars, etc.

The following lectures, seminars, etc. will be open to members of the University and others who are interested:

Engineering. The fourth in the third series of Distinguished Lectures in Sustainable Development, organized by the Centre for Sustainable Development, will take place in Lecture Room 0, in the Department of Engineering, Trumpington Street, at 5.30 p.m. for 6 p.m. on 2 March. The speaker will be Professor Paul Elkins of the Policy Studies Institute in London and the topic will be Trade, environment, and development: issues, linkages, challenges, and opportunities.

Materials Science and Metallurgy. A workshop on Tomorrow's technology in minerals and metals will be held in Trinity Hall on 7 and 8 April. For further details please contact Dr R. Vasant Kumar (rvk10@cam.ac.uk).

Centre for Modern Hebrew Studies. On 9 March, Etgar Keret, Israeli author, will talk about his work, in Room 8, Faculty of Oriental Studies, Sidgwick Avenue, at 5 p.m.

Physics. Scott Lecture Series 2005. Professor Ahmed Zewail, 1999 Nobel Prize-winner for Chemistry, of the California Institute of Technology, will give three lectures on the theme Physics of life, in the Pippard Lecture Theatre, Cavendish Laboratory, at 4.30 p.m. on the following dates:

10 March Biological dynamics
11 March The new dimensions
