Merton College

REED FOUNDATION GRADUATE SCHOLARSHIP

Merton College is offering one Reed Foundation Graduate Scholarship in 2005. The Scholarship is intended to assist a student of outstanding academic excellence from the developing world who is applying to the University of Oxford for the first time, and who for financial reasons would not otherwise be able to come.

It covers College and University fees, and a maintenance grant equivalent to that of a UK national research funding body's doctoral maintenance award (c. £10,000 in 2004-05), net of accommodation charges where applicable. Subject to satisfactory progress, the Scholarship will be tenable for one or two years.

The competition is open to applicants who have graduated after 1 May 2002 with a degree result equivalent to at least Upper Second Class Honours in a British first degree, AND are nationals of one of the following countries: Algeria, Djibouti, Egypt, Iran, Iraq, Jordan, Morocco, Syrian Arab Republic, Tunisia, West Bank and Gaza, Republic of Yemen, AND who have undertaken not more than two years of postgraduate study or research, AND who are intending to start a course of study leading to a degree or formal qualification from the University of Oxford starting in October 2005, in any of the subjects normally accepted by the College apart from Medicine and the M.B.A., AND have no other funding which would allow them to do so.

The closing date for applications for this competition is 22 April. Applicants should already have been offered places by the relevant Faculty or Department of the University or should be in the competition for the third cycle of Oxford graduate admissions. Applicants who have not been accepted by the relevant Faculty or Department of the University by 17 May will be rejected.
