Merton College

LEVENTIS GRADUATE SCHOLARSHIP IN GREEK STUDIES

The College proposes to elect in 2005 a Leventis Graduate Scholar. The Scholarship will cover College and University fees, and an additional maintenance grant equivalent to that of the AHRB (in the region of £10,500 for 2004-05), payable in three termly instalments, net of accommodation, if applicable. Single accommodation, if required, is guaranteed for the first year of the Scholarship and may be available in subsequent years. Subject to satisfactory progress, the Scholarship will be tenable for three years.

The award is open to both men and women who meet the following criteria: all candidates must be university graduates, who are citizens of the Republic of Greece or the Republic of Cyprus, and have not carried out more than two years of postgraduate study or research, and propose to begin a doctorate at the University of Oxford in October 2005 in the study of any aspect of Greek culture and civilization from the Bronze Age to AD 1453. While the Committee will interpret this in a wide sense (especially geographically) candidates who are in any doubt whether their proposal meets the criteria should contact the Secretary for Graduates, Merton College. This award is not available for studies relating to Modern Greece, or at any other university.

Details of the award may be obtained from the Secretary for Graduates, Merton College, Oxford, OX1 4JD (fax 01865 286500, e-mail julieg@admin.merton.ox.ac.uk). The closing date for applications is 31 January.
