Two Professorships of the Physics of Medicine: Notice

The Boards of Electors to two Professorships of the Physics of Medicine invite applications for these Professorships from persons whose work falls within the general field of the Physics of Medicine to take up these appointments on 1 October 2005 or as soon as possible thereafter.

One of these Professorships will be the Herchel Smith Professorship of Physics and has been made possible through the generosity of the late Dr Herchel Smith. The person filling this chair will lead the many interdisciplinary activities in the general area of the Physics of Medicine currently being developed in the Cavendish Laboratory in collaboration with the School of Clinical Medicine and lead the programme in new directions. The second is a non-clinical Professorship of Medical Physics supported by the Addenbrooke's NHS Trust. The Professor will be expected to provide strategic leadership and advice in the Physics of Medicine to the Addenbrooke's NHS Trust.

It is expected that the primary base of both Professors for teaching and research will be the Cavendish Laboratory, but with involvement in the programme of the School of Clinical Medicine, as described above.

Further information may be obtained from the Academic Secretary, University Offices, The Old Schools, Cambridge, CB2 1TT (e-mail ibise@admin.cam.ac.uk), to whom a letter of application should be sent, together with details of current and future research plans, a curriculum vitae, a publications list, and form PD18 with details of two referees, so as to reach him no later than 28 February.

Longair, Department of Physics (tel. 01223 337429, e-mail msl@mrao.cam.ac.uk) and to Professor Sir Keith Peters (tel. 01223 336738, e-mail dkp1000@medschl.cam.ac.uk).
