Jesus College and Keble College

COLLEGE LECTURESHIP(S) IN PHYSICAL APPLIED MATHEMATICS

Jesus and Keble Colleges together invite applications for either one or two fixed-term College Stipendiary Lectureships in Physical Applied Mathematics for the academical year 2005-06 and, if a candidate wishes, also the academical year 2006-07. The starting date will be 1 October 2005. The Colleges require teaching in Physical Applied Mathematics for an average of twelve hours a week over the three eight-week terms of the academical year, and will either appoint to two posts with six hours' teaching (one post to cover first-year teaching, the other to cover second-year teaching), or one post with twelve hours' teaching. In addition, in both Colleges the lecturer(s) will be expected to set and mark College examinations, to participate in admissions and in the routine administration of Mathematics, and to assist in the pastoral care of undergraduates reading Mathematics.

Candidates should have an excellent educational background, with a good first degree and, preferably, should have obtained or be working for a doctorate in Mathematics. A twelve-hour appointment would be on a scale with a starting point of £18,374, and a six-hour appointment would be on a scale with a starting point of £8,376. The Lecturer(s) will be offered dining rights in both Colleges, and in Jesus College a research allowance, book allowance, and student hospitality allowance, as well as access to a teaching room.

Further particulars are available from the Academic Administrator, Jesus College, Oxford, OX1 3DW (e-mail academic.administrator@jesus.ox.ac.uk) and from the Jesus College website at http://www.jesus.ox.ac.uk/. Letters of application should include a statement of the candidate's teaching experience and research interests as well as a curriculum vitae and the names of two referees. Candidates are asked to indicate whether a six- hour or twelve-hour post is preferred (and if six-hour, whether the teaching to first- or second-year students), and whether the post is sought for 2005-06 only or also for 2006-07. Applications for the post(s) on a six- or twelve-hour basis, or for one or two years, are equally welcome. Candidates should ask their referees to write directly to the Academic Administrator at Jesus College by the closing date. Letters of application and references should reach the Academic Administrator of Jesus College by 11 February.

Jesus and Keble Colleges are equal opportunities employers.
